April 6 is Chakri Day, which commemorates the founding of the current Chakri Dynasty. This will be an important day for the Chakri Dynasty as the new Rama X Banknotes (Series 17) will debut and circulated in Thailand.
The first banknotes bearing his His Majesty, the King’s image (King Maha Vajiralongkorn) will be available on April 6, 2018 initially in three denominations; 20, 50 and 100 baht as announced by Bank of Thailand (BOT) governor Veerathai Santipraphob said on March 8, 2018.
Two other denominations – 500 and 1,000 baht – will be issued on the birthday of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, July 28, 2018.
These new banknotes will feature a portrait of His Majesty, the King. The size and dimension will be the same as the banknotes circulated during the reign of the late King Rama IX (King Bhumibol Adulyadej), said the BOT governor, and existing banknotes (Series 15 and Series 16) will remain in circulation. Current coins can will still be used.
